Post 7 - How Can Your Major Make the World a Better Place

I believe that the greatest contribution that sociology can make is that it allows us to understand reality in a deep way, and then be able to intervene and make social changes.



I decided to study this career because I carried out different social intervention projects, where I felt that I needed more tools to generate a contribution that lasts over time, and that is not a momentary welfare aid. So I decided that sociology could give me the tools I wanted. However, despite the fact that I consider sociology as a fundamental tool to generate changes, everything has to arise in one, from the desire to do something. Sociology won't give you that.

In this process, I imagine myself working in the field and closely, so as not to stay in theory, but to apply it to a concrete reality. 

I feel that the greatest contribution that this career can make is that it forms people committed to the social environment, with a critical vision and with the desire to generate real changes in society.

    Sara I feel you!!! I think the same way, theory is important... but what is really important is whether or not it is linked in practice with people's problems.

My favorite gadget is my cell phone. I got it a couple of years ago, but since that, it has become my favorite and the one I use the most. I use it every day, to talk with my friends and family, to use my social medias, to take photos and to listen to music. I like it because it is a device that I can take everywhere, it is very small but I can do many things with it. I believe that my life without my phone, especially in a pandemic, would be lonelier and boring, because it is the medium through which I communicate daily with my loved ones. But on the other hand, I recognize that not having a cell phone would also have positive things, such as being more productive during the day. Sometimes I can spend hours wasting time on the phone instead doing other things.

Blog 4 - A photograph and its story

I took this photo in 2018 in Chiloé, from the terrace of my house. In the photo you can see the beautiful landscape, the trees, the sea, the Chiloé islands in the background, but the most beautiful thing, the sunset that curved the entire sky. I really like the photo for two main reasons. First, because of what that place means to me, it is the house of my childhood, the place where I go every summer, the place that brings us together as a family and where I enjoy nature the most. Second, I really like sunsets and this was one of the most beautiful I've seen, so I decided to take a picture of it. It is said that Chiloé is magical, and the sunsets that I have been able to see from that terrace make me believe that it is.

Post 6 - Post Graduate Studies

Since I was little I have dreamed of studying a postgraduate degree when I finish university, one that helps me deepen in sociology or specialize in some area of ​​it. I am still not sure which magister I would like to do, but I do know some topics that I would like to study in depth, such as migration and poverty. I also really like economics, so I researched courses in that subject. Some examples are "Master of Migration Studies" in San Francisco and "Policy and Practice of Migration Studies" in the Buckinghamshire University in UK. I would like to study abroad, in any country, but if I had to choose I would love to study in Spain or London. After this time in a pandemic and with an online university, I definitely do not want it to be distance education, but a modality that allows me to go to classes and then visit and get to know the place.
