Post 5 - Write about an artist or celebrity you admire

One of the artists that I admire is Violeta Parra, who is a renowned Chilean popular singer-songwriter, recognized as one of the main folklorists in Latin America. Violeta was born on October 4, 1917 and passed away on February 5, 1967. I got to know her music when I was very little, since my parents had many CDs of her.




Violeta Parra published several albums during her life, but my favorite is “Gracias a la Vida”, which has songs like “Volver a los 17” that inspire me a lot.

                                     

What I like the most about her is that her works transcend to this day and represent Chilean country music and folklore. He has definitely been an inspiration to many more artists and made a great contribution to Chilean art.

    In school we used to sing a lot of violeta parra songs! the words she provides with her music are really amazing and meaningful. I watched the movie they made about her, it was really a good and I may have cried a little haha

    It is true! also her work traspasses music encompassing the loom and handicrafts. It allowed her to travel over the world and shows Chilean culture, in the Louvre for example.

    I love that album too! For me she is one the greatest chilean artist of all time! Also she is a female icon because of her trayectory and the way she use her lyrics as a wepon against social injustice and woman empowerment

My favorite gadget is my cell phone. I got it a couple of years ago, but since that, it has become my favorite and the one I use the most. I use it every day, to talk with my friends and family, to use my social medias, to take photos and to listen to music. I like it because it is a device that I can take everywhere, it is very small but I can do many things with it. I believe that my life without my phone, especially in a pandemic, would be lonelier and boring, because it is the medium through which I communicate daily with my loved ones. But on the other hand, I recognize that not having a cell phone would also have positive things, such as being more productive during the day. Sometimes I can spend hours wasting time on the phone instead doing other things.

Blog 4 - A photograph and its story

I took this photo in 2018 in Chiloé, from the terrace of my house. In the photo you can see the beautiful landscape, the trees, the sea, the Chiloé islands in the background, but the most beautiful thing, the sunset that curved the entire sky. I really like the photo for two main reasons. First, because of what that place means to me, it is the house of my childhood, the place where I go every summer, the place that brings us together as a family and where I enjoy nature the most. Second, I really like sunsets and this was one of the most beautiful I've seen, so I decided to take a picture of it. It is said that Chiloé is magical, and the sunsets that I have been able to see from that terrace make me believe that it is.

Post 6 - Post Graduate Studies

Since I was little I have dreamed of studying a postgraduate degree when I finish university, one that helps me deepen in sociology or specialize in some area of ​​it. I am still not sure which magister I would like to do, but I do know some topics that I would like to study in depth, such as migration and poverty. I also really like economics, so I researched courses in that subject. Some examples are "Master of Migration Studies" in San Francisco and "Policy and Practice of Migration Studies" in the Buckinghamshire University in UK. I would like to study abroad, in any country, but if I had to choose I would love to study in Spain or London. After this time in a pandemic and with an online university, I definitely do not want it to be distance education, but a modality that allows me to go to classes and then visit and get to know the place.
